My younger brother is a teacher at an elementary school in northern California and there have been some severe budget cuts in the last few years. Luckily, he still has his job however for the past 3 years all of the teachers and staff that work at his school got pink slips just before summer vacation and they were kind of waiting around during the summer waiting to see if the school would be funded and remain open. It is not easy to make it through the whole summer break being unsure of if you will have a job to come back to one summer vacation is over or not.

Up to this point he’s been fortunate and he has been able to return each year. Although his occupation is uncertain through the entire summer season he is very dedicated to his students and spends a portion of his time through the entire summer looking into 4th grade science projects that he will be able to work on with his class. Cash has been tight though and he hasn’t been given a pay raise in a number of years. He has a timeshare in Orlando but he has been trying to find someone to sell it to because he is having trouble keeping up with the maintenance fees. He soon realized that selling a timeshare will be quite difficult so that he’s been looking into the option of a timeshare donation to charity as a way to get rid of it so he won’t have to pay the monthly maintenance fees from now on.

When he first started looking into selling his unit he thought that it could possibly be difficult as a result of poor economic climate and the depressed housing market but it wasn’t long before he realized that selling a timeshare will be difficult even under ideal conditions because there are many more sellers than there are buyers. Which is why he started to think that a donation it might be the only option.

Cash has been extremenly tight and he is now having problems keeping up with other bills and the next expense he may have to let go is his home security system monitoring. He has to pay about $27 monthly for the service so he’s been looking for ways to get rid of that bill but still keep a little bit of sort of home security. He has looked at options like home security Internet monitoring and auto dialers so that he can monitor his own home security system. Essentially he would act as his own monitoring company. He could check up on his home when he is out via the internet and in case there is a break in a call could be made to his cellular phone, or any other phone number he chooses on auto-pilot.

I wish I could help my brother but things have not exactly been very easy for me either and we’re just trying to get through this. I’ve worked for many years as a real estate agent and when the housing market went into the toilet my income took a big hit. Things are beginning to change a little now though because prices are so much lower than they were that it is an excellent time to purchase and a lot of people are beginning to purchase houses again. It’s actually lower on a monthly basis today to pay a mortgage than it is to keep paying rent so buying a house really makes sence. Things seem to be improving so my brother and I are hopeful and we’re hoping for the best.
